Happy Birthday Nickly!

Even more important (gasp) than yarn is my son's tenth birthday, which is officially tomorrow but we celebrated tonight. We took him to the Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company for a pizza/movie night, and he wore his new socks that Mama made, and then we ate cake. He said it was the best ever. How can I top that?

Update/Bragging

So all three of my kids are blooming here in Ashevegas. Son #1 joined the band, has passing grades, and voluntarily signed up for a nerd club at school. We are all nerds (I probably did not need to inform you of this) so I am delighted. Son #2 has just been placed in the gifted program at school and has made a friend to invite to his birthday party next week. Son #3 is in a huge cub scout pack and has been invited to a playdate thing already. I'm a content Mom.

I still don't have a job, probably because most of my time is spent either on household chores or playing with yarn. OK, I spend a few hours on Ravelry. Every few hours. *clears throat*

But I am doing volunteer work at the Hospice, my class starts tomorrow night, and i'm trying to set up a weekly knit with my friend Lizabee.

The rest of my bragging is because I got a surprise package from another Ravelry friend today, MarySK sent me a fancy box of loot for no reason! And I know she must have read my wishlist on here somewhere, because she sent me yankee candles in sage n citrus, Crabtree & Evelyn lotions, even some cotton yarn! A lovely sweet note, a pouch for circs which is so handy, and a Halloween writing pad. Sweet!!!

Monkijan: Generous Sweet Knitter !

I have never met this raveler but someday I want to give her big, chocolatey hugs. I guess she read about my appeal for socks for our troops in honor of my secret pink pal, because here is what her response was: First there was a box of heaven/aka chocolate for the pugger (thats me) plus some glorious dark pink sockyarn for Shannon which I will get to work on for her right away, and she even sent a bag of chicken treats for the baby. I tried to get a pic of one in his mouth but as you can tell from the bug eye face these treats were going too fast for any silly mommie poses. Bless you, Monkijan! We all (pugger, Boots, four fur friends, hubby and boys, and Shannon who spent last weekend in Iraq) love you!

Having her dog cloned now makes so much more sense.

"I loved him so much," she told a judge, "that I would ski naked down Mount Everest in the nude with a carnation up my nose if he asked me to." This is referring to the Mormon missionary that she kidnapped and chained him to a bed with mink-lined handcuffs and made him her sex slave.

Uh HUH.

Now she's in trouble for something about talking some guy into a burglary...to get her three-legged horse a wooden leg.

Frickin CREEPY.

Environmentally Responsible Death

Today has been really whimsical and its only 2:30. I rushed to the women's breakfast at church this morning, bagels in hand, and was priviledged to attend a program called "A Grave Matter" where the discussion centered around this guy's book "Grave Matters: A Journey Through the Modern Funeral Industry To a Natural Way of Burial"

Listening to (mostly) older women, ok all of 'em were old, discuss being cremated and then shot out as fireworks or using cardboard coffin boxes to save the planet was pretty neat. My favotire part was "I used to dream about going on a one-way ride to the moon, shot towards the underbelly of the whale."

Another popular idea is mixing ashes into cement and becoming part of the artificial barrier reef.

UU's are so refreshing.

Then I headed to an estate sale where a woman had died (most likely not shot as fireworks) and I found some neat little knitting looms and old crochet hooks (four are bone) as well as 4 niddy noddy's. I'm linking to ravelry so if you want a niddy noddy, a loom, or bone hooks just pm puggerhugger. :)

The coolest find was this folding pattern-holder which you can see in the picture sits right next to my knittng corner so the puglet won't eat my pattern while I'm trying to read it.

Last I stopped in at Purl's to exchange the fourteen balls of highly obnoxious Debbie Bliss "luxury" Donegal Tweed for 8 balls of this beautiful soft turquoise Arucania. Go go Mr. greenjeans sweater! Wish me luck. No, seriously, Im terrified.

What Would Palin Name YOU?

My friend Jennifer Saylor sent me this link. My Palin name is Grill Igloo Palin. This makes me giggle uncontrollably.

Sarah Palin has picked out an All-American set of names for her children. There's Track, Trig, Bristol, Willow, and Piper.

Ever wonder, What would your name would be if Sarah Palin was your mother? Well now you can find out!

Yarny Business Items

Attention, come to order, etc etc.

All kinds of stuff going on in the Ravelry world of yarny goodness!

First of all, Onesweettart is getting a huge secret RAK from the Traveling Scarves group, and each group is being asked to contribute something special to help her feel better. Think Pink is doing a shawl, thanks to Shebear29's brill idea. All you have to do is send yarn/postage $ to me or to Sheila. We can make the shawl, or if you are a crocheter you might want to work on it with us.

Also, I've decided that in addition to a huge pink box of goodies, my secret swap partner should get a really meaningful gift in Pink Fall Swap. SO if you are looking for info on my request for troops, here it is:

Please go to http://www.operationtoastytoes.org/
for more info on the project. All I'm asking is that if you are interested in doing something for the troops, do it in honor of Shannon and then let me know so I can add your name to the list. When our swap is done I can give her a list of names of you wonderful crafters that sent helmet liners and slippers overseas in her honor! Shannon is serving in Kuwait, and she is my yarny hero.

I so hope that she does not decide to read this blog herself and spoil the surprise! EEKS!

Last but least, a wishlist for the puggerhugger, just in case anyone could read through all that giving stuff and still feel generous. LOL. This is just for my swap pals in case they are out of ideas of what the hell do I get for that Puggerhugger for a swap?! Here's ideas:

Pugger's wishlist (I have no shame)
1. Yankee Candle citrus n sage
2. handmade knit/crochet items especially socks, that would be so cool!
3. chocolate. coffee.
4. trinkets- pens, fancy stickers, stitch markers or beads
5. ravelry tote
6. the pattern for meathead hat
